24 (notice of birth)
cannot be downloaded from the website and applicants
must
send a fully paid self addressed envelope. Those
applying for a foreign birth registration in
person will receive the form at the office.

- Payments must be in British Pounds and
in the form of postal order, bank draft or cash.
- Postal
orders and bank drafts must be made payable to
SA High Commission
- Special delivery envelope must
be provided for all applications for birth registration.
The
said envelope will be used to return all issued certificates
to the applicant securely. Your special delivery
envelope maybe used if the application is incomplete.
Certificates issued to applicants who sent their
applications to this office without special delivery
envelope will not be posted.
- Incomplete applications
will not be considered.
- An abridged South
African birth certificate is issued as proof
of birth
registration. For a
full birth certificate a fee of £4.00 (postal
order made payable to the South African High
Commission, London) must be sent with the application. (Form
BI 154)
- In the case of a
child born out of wedlock the birth of such
a child’s surname can be
reflected as: -under the surname of the mother
(the biological
father’s details are omitted from the
form BI 24 OR
- Under the surname of the
biological father of the
child provided that it is a joint request of
the mother and the father, made in the presence of
the Consular Staff member. See section D of
form BI 24
- A double-barrelled surname for a child born
out of wedlock can only be considered after the
birth has been registered. (This is regarded as an amendment)
- In the case of a
child born in wedlock the birth is registered
in the surname of the father.
- Should the parents
be married and require a double –barrelled
surname for the child, both parents must acknowledge
this on the sides (in the margin) of form BI
24.
- The informant is
the child’s father,
mother, aunt, uncle or grandparents only. See
section
E of form BI 24
- Date of birth (see
section A of form BI 24) should be stated as YEAR MONTH DAY.
- This application
is accompanied by an application for a SA passport
see requirements for child
passport.

REQUIRED APPLICATION FORMS
• BI 24 Form: Notice
of Birth. This form cannot be downloaded from the website and applicants
must request this in writing by
sending a fully paid self addressed envelope.
• BI 9 Form: ONLY FOR APPLICANTS
15 ½ YEARS AND OLDER.
This form cannot be downloaded from the website and applicants
must request this in writing by sending a fully paid self addressed
envelope. An application for Identity Document in respect of persons
who are 15 ½ years and older / who are not in possession
of a 13 digit Identity number will need to complete two BI 9 forms
and TWO sets of fingerprints will be required. This form is used
for fingerprints ONLY. Fingerprint of all applicants who made appointments
to make an application at the office will be taken by Consular
Officers. The office also provides a fingerprint service to all
South Africans who cannot get any assistance with the taking of
fingerprints from UK Police. Such assistance is provided from Monday
to Friday between 3 PM and 4 PM and no appointment is needed during
the said designated time. On arrival collect form BI 9 and complete
page 1 also have your photographs and current passport ready. This
is a first come first serve basis and there after the application
will be treated as a postal application. All supporting documents
and MONEY must be submitted by post. NO APPOINTMENT IS NEEDED FOR
THE TAKING OF FINGEPRRINTS.

529 Form: Determination
of citizenship. (For applicants UNDER 15 ½ YEARS OF AGE.) – To
be completed by one of the South African Parents. Holders of foreign
citizenship MUST provide
proof of how they acquired such a foreign citizenship. In cases
of those applicants who acquired foreign citizenship through any
of their parents, a certified copy of the full birth certificate
showing the birth places of your parent(s). Under circumstances
where even the parents acquired such a citizenship through descent,
a letter from the relevant authorities in the country concerned
will suffice. Also refer to items 9,10 and 11 of form
BI
529 .

of citizenship (15 ½ years and
older) Information reflected on this form must be of the applicant.
Also refer to Items 9,10 and 11. HOLDERS
OF FOREIGN CITIZENSHIP MUST PROVIDE PROOF OF HOW THEY ACQUIRED
SUCH A FOREIGN CITIZENSHIP. Any amendments
must be initialled accordingly.

- Proof of parents South African citizenship status (Certified
photocopies of South African passport or identity document together
with copies of the UK visas).IF
YOU HAVE OBTAINED RETENTION OF SOUTH AFRICAN CITIZENSHIP, THEN
A COPY OF THIS LETTER MUST ALSO
BE SUBMITTED.
- Certified photocopy of a foreign full birth certificate
reflecting both parents particulars.
- Certified photocopy of marriage
certificate of parents.
