PASSPORT RENEWAL/FULL PASSPORTS


A passport renewal is made under circumstances where a current passport is either expired or nearing its expiry. 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Passport application form (BI 73 form);

  • Determination of RSA citizenship (BI 529 form).  The form is COMPULSORY for all South Africans and evidence of any foreign citizenship must be provided where applicable.  

  • Fingerprint form (BI 9 form).  The form is COMPULSORY for all applicants who are 15½ years and above.  Applicants who are taking fingerprints for the first time for passport purposes will be required to complete 2 BI 9 forms.  The fingerprint form is not downloadable and the applicants who need the form can obtain it in the following ways:
    1. They can collect it from the office from 8:45 am - 12:45 pm.
    2. They can send a self addressed stamped envelope to 15 Whitehall, London, SW1A 2 DD with a request for the form so that it can be posted to them.
  • 4 passport sized photographs.  Please check the specifications of the photographs before taking them.  The specifications are stated on this link: http://www.home-affairs.gov.za/PassportIDPhotoSpecifications.pdf.  Applicants who are 15½ years old and those who do not have identity numbers MUST provide 6 passport sized photographs.

  • 2 certified copies of photo page of the passport or ID book. 

  • 2 certified copies of marriage certificate – if applicable.  Applicants who got married outside South Africa OR had their marriages dissolved by a foreign court MUST ensure that their marriage certificates or divorce decrees are legalized before presenting them to the High Commission.  Information on legalization of UK issued documents is available on this link: http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/about-us/what-we-do/services-we-deliver/legal-services/legalisation/.  Legalized marriage certificates and divorce decrees will be needed under circumstances where the marital status of the applicant is to be made.  Applicants who will be applying in person at the High Commission will be assisted with the certification of their documents during the application process.  They must ONLY have the original document and copy of the document to be certified.
  • 2 certified copies of the divorce decree or legalized divorce decree if marriage was dissolved abroad – if applicableApplicants who will be applying in person at the High Commission will be assisted with the certification of their documents during the application process.  They must ONLY have the original document and copy of the document to be certified.
  • 2 certified copies of foreign birth certificate or naturalization certificate – if applicable.  THIS IS APPLICABLE ONLY TO APPLICANTS WHO ARE DUAL CITIZENS OF SOUTH AFRICA.  THE FOREIGN BIRTH CERTIFICATE OR NATURALIZATION CERTIFICATE MUST BE TRANSLATED IF IT IS IN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE.  Applicants who will be applying in person at the High Commission will be assisted with the certification of their documents during the application process.  They must ONLY have the original document and copy  of the document to be certified.
  • Police report - if your passport is lost or stolen.

  • Written consent from both parents (if applicants are under 18 years).

Prescribed Fees

Payment of prescribed fees MUST be in cash or postal order payable to SA HIGH COMMISSION.  Personal cheques are NOT accepted.
