PASSPORT RENEWAL/FULL PASSPORTS

  • Appointment must be made for passport application to be handed in at the office, if it is not going to be posted.
  • All applicants for RSA passports must provide their e – mail address so that they can be informed when the passport is ready for collection.
  • Payments must be made in British Pounds in form of cash, bank draft or postal order.
  • Postal orders and bank drafts must be made payable to SA HIGH COMMISSION.
  • Passport applications made by post must be sent by special delivery envelope and must have another fully paid self addressed special delivery envelope enclosed for the return of issued documents. Your special delivery envelope maybe used if the application is incomplete
  • Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  • Fingerprints of all applicants who made appointments to make an application at the office will be taken by Consular Officers on the date of the appointment. The office also provides a fingerprint services to all South Africans who cannot get any assistance with the taking of fingerprints from UK Police. Such assistance is provided from Monday to Friday between 3 PM & 4 PM and no appointment is needed during the said designated time. On arrival at the office collect form BI 9 (taking of fingerprints) and complete your personal details on page 1 also have the photographs and your current passport ready. This is a first come first serve basis and thereafter the application will be treated as a postal application. All supporting documents and MONEY must be submitted by post and once this is received the application will receive attention.
  • If you are a married woman and you wish to either retain your maiden surname or change to your husband’s surname a letter is required stating the fact. Submit proof of the change.

Required Application Forms

  • BI-73 (Passport Application Form)

  • BI-529 (Determination of Citizenship). Must be completed by all SA citizens living outside SA. Holders of foreign citizenship MUST provide proof of how they acquired such a foreign citizenship. In cases of those applicants who acquired foreign citizenship through any of their parents, a certified copy of full birth certificate showing the birth places of your parent(s). Under circumstances where even the parents acquired such a citizenship through descent, a letter from relevant authorities in the country concerned will suffice. Also refer to items 9,10 and 11 of Form BI-529

  • BI 9 (Fingerprint Form. The form is completed ONLY by applicants who are 15 ½ years and above. It cannot be downloaded from our website and applicants must send a fully paid self addressed envelope if they need it. Those applying for passports in person will receive them at the office.

  • For applicants 15 ½ years of age / who are not in possession of a 13 digit Identity number will need to complete two BI 9 forms and TWO sets of fingerprints will be required

Supporting Documents

  1. 4 X passport size photographs.

  2. 6 X passport size photographs for applicants 15 ½ years of age / who are not in possession of a 13 digit Identity number.

  3. 2 X certified copies of bio – data page of passport or ID book. This is a page showing your face and all your particulars. Requested copy of the ID book or passports of applicants making applications in person will be certified accordingly by Consular staff. Applicants not having ID number must provide their RSA birth certificate and form BI 24 notice of birth.

  4. 2 X certified copies of marriage certificate – if applicable.

  5. 2 X certified copies of divorce decree – if applicable.

  6. 2 X certified copies of foreign birth registration or naturalization certificate – if applicable.

  7. Original police report – if your passport is lost or stolen / case number and form CMO217.


  8. Sworn statement detailing how your passport was destroyed or damaged – if passport is damaged or destroyed.

  9. Written consent from both parents (If applicants are under 18 years).

  10. British Home Office letter stating that you do not have British citizenship. The letter is requested from those who have been in the UK for 4 years or more. The letter should not be 4 months old. The letter can be obtained by writing to: Nationality Enquire Team, Immigration and Nationality Directorate, PO Box 306, Liverpool, L69 2UX.


  11. 2 X certified copies of valid British Visa.
